History and Special Features
Originally two separate TAFE institutes with origins going back to early last century, NMIT is the result of their amalgamation in 1987.
In addition to a host of courses in a range of disciplines NMIT boasts a dedicated Horticulture campus, a modern and well equipped Commercial Cookery kitchen, two farms which are used for Horse Studies and agriculture courses. Computer facilities are constantly being upgraded to meet the demands of the constantly changing needs of the IT and Multimedia courses.
Students elect to study in TAFE because the courses are regularly re-accredited so that they reflect the needs of a constantly developing society and the practical hands on nature of the courses. On completing a TAFE course students are able to do the things that they study. Many students also use TAFE as a stepping stone to University where TAFE diplomats can expect to go into second year of a similar course.
For students from a non-English speaking background TAFE 's classroom style of teaching provides an ideal way to progress academically and continue to develop academic competence.
