History and Special Features

The Gordon Institute of TAFE is an Institute of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and is part of the Victorian Government State Training System. Gordon courses and programs are accredited by the Australian Government and recognised worldwide. Established in 1887, there are five campuses located within the city of Geelong, the state’s largest regional city outside Melbourne. The Gordon Institute of TAFE provides a rewarding, successful and enjoyable education experience in Australia.

Location

Gordon Institute of TAFE is located in Geelong, a safe, clean and friendly waterfront city located less than 1 hour from Melbourne CBD. Established in 1887, Gordon Institute of TAFE offers quality Diploma and Certificate courses for International Students.

Student Numbers and Staff

There are 22,500 students enrolled at Gordon Institute of TAFE, and around 120 international students. All staff are dedicated, well qualified and experienced in teaching International Students.

Faculties / Fields of Study

Gordon Institute of TAFE offers quality Diploma and Certificate courses for International Students in English Language (ELICOS), Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing, Multimedia, Information Technology, Hospitality & Cookery, Tourism, Art & Design, Fashion & Textiles, Science, Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy.

English Language Courses

English Language courses (ELICOS) are provided at five different levels:

• Elementary General English;
• Pre-Intermediate General English;
• Intermediate General English;
• Upper-Intermediate General English; and
• Advanced General English.

Also available is the 5 week Further Studies Preparation Program (Summer School) for students who are going study Certificate, Diploma or Higher Ed courses.

Admission Requirements

Entrance into Certificate and Diploma courses requires an IELTS equivalent of 5.5.
Completion of the equivalent of Year 11 Secondary Education is also required. (except for entrance into Year 11 & 12 programs)

If you do not have IELTS, Gordon Institute of TAFE will provide an English test for you, if allowable by Australian Immigration regulations in your country.

All students are automatically admitted into ELICOS Programs if required.

Enrolment Procedures

International Students are assisted to complete their enrolment procedures as part of the Orientation Program.

Important Dates / Academic Year

Certificate and Diploma courses start in February and July each year. English courses start in January with intakes every five weeks.

Support services specifically for International Students include:

• Assisting International students with accommodation and housing issues;
• Educational and study advice;
• Assistance in the monitoring of academic progress;
• Personal and Educational counselling;
• Orientation for new student;
• FREE AIRPORT PICKUP for students studying 20 weeks or more;
• General community resource information such visa and health matters;
• Well equipped language laboratory;
• Computers for e-mail and private study use; and
• Computer Assisted language learning (CALL).

Tuition Fees

• A$8,300 per year for most Certificate and Diploma courses; and
• A$2,500 for 10 weeks of ELICOS.

Accommodation Costs

• Student Residence A$92.50 per week; and
• Homestay from A$140 to A$160 per week including all meals.

A free accommodation arrangement service is provided to all new students studying 20 weeks or more.

Alumni Association

We have now established an International On-Line Alumni Program, so that we can renew old friendships, re-establish contact and maintain an ongoing relationship with our graduates. Gordon graduates are invited to register through our website and proceed to the Alumni icon at the bottom of the page.
