Introduction
Charles Darwin University (CDU) was founded in 1989 when pre-existing educational institutions merged together. CDU is the main provider of tertiary and vocational education in the Northern Territory.
CDU has a close relationship with Darwin community, with one in ten Darwinians participating in CDU activities.
Over 60 different nationalities are represented in our student population. Comprehensive course offerings focussing on the region's unique cultural, economic, environmental and industrial educational requirements - Vocational Education and Training (VET), short courses, graduate diplomas, undergraduate and graduate degrees through to PhD. CDU has the lowest student/lecturer ratio among Australian universities and very flexible entry requirements.

Location
Campuses: - Casuarina is the main campus located in the Northern Suburbs of Darwin very close to Casuarina Beach. It is 15km from the city and is served directly by the Darwin Bus Service. - Palmerston campus is located in the satellite city of Palmerston 20km from Darwin City Centre. It is a new campus that specialises mainly in tourism & hospitality related courses. - NT Rural College near Katherine (350km South of Darwin) specialises in agriculture and horticulture related courses. - Alice Springs campus is located in the heart of Australia. The campus offers students modern facilities surrounded by native gardens.

There are approximately 18,000 students at Charles Darwin University. This includes full time & part time higher education as well as vocational education students.
Faculties / Fields of Study
Specialist areas of study include:Tourism & hospitality, Southeast Asian Studies and Southeast Asian Law, Information Technology, Environmental Sciences, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, Tropical Architecture, Tropical Health Sciences.
There are also various government Centres for Cooperative Research at CDU covering the areas of Tropical Savannas, Aboriginal Health, Sustainable Tourism, Tropical Plant Protection and Desert Knowledge.

ELICOS - English Language Intensive Courses Overseas Students

Admission Requirements
- Supply certified academic transcripts in English - Have acceptable level of English in form of IELTS or TOEFL - Application is assessed by the relevant faculty
Enrolment Procedures
If application is successful then an offer is made.
- Payment of fees to CDU (minimum 1 semester plus health cover) - Student issued with ECOE required for application for visa - Student must arrange visa for Australia before departing their country - Make travel and accommodation arrangements

Accommodation Costs
North Flinders International House (NFIH) provides on-campus student accommodation. A single room will vary from Aus$128 to Aus$143 per week. Meals are not included, as the accommodation is all self-catering (communal kitchens on each floor).
